A long time before I even heard of François Morellet (1926-2016), I had been making similar paintings. When I became more acquainted with his extensive oeuvre I decided to try and make some colored versions of a certain type of his work.

In this particular case I started off with a grey background and chose three additional colors to spray the superimposing grids.

A glossy copper spray paint in combination with the application of a needle cap makes the first grid reflect under a certain incidence of light while the two additional overlaying grids intensify the glittering effect.
